Temples and Guesthouses in Champasak
Arrived in Champasak, just about an hour south of Pakse. There is not much to see except for a nearby temple - they claim it's the most impressive Khmer temple outside Cambodia. So somehow I imagined something HUGE. But the area is really quite small. Still, it's a rather beautiful temple to look at as you'll see as soon as I find the time to upload the pictures.
I got a bit angry at the two Swedish, Annika and Bodil, today. I mean: They are two. So they can split the costs of accomodation between the two of them whereas I have to pay everything myself. This already annoyed me in Savannaketh where they chose the cheaper room of the guesthouse I knew about and that was not in their Lonely Planet. But when I asked Bodil whether they could imagine switching rooms, she refused. Well, I didn't feel like fighting with them so I let it pass. But now something similar has happened in Campansak: We were going to a guesthose I had been told about (Mr. Vong or sth. like that) but when we came there they had only one room for 15,000 kip. And the surrounding guesthouses only had more expensive rooms, like 20,000 or 25,000 kip. But did they offer to take the more expensive room? No. Actually I suppose I should be angry at myself for not having put my foot down. Ah, well.
The guesthouse I found in the end (Riverside Guesthouse) was not quite as nice but alright. Unfortunately a colony of ants had picked my sink to nest but after applying some, ehem, evolutionary (water)pressure they could be convinced to pack their things and go.
The probably best thing about the guesthouse I'm staying in is that I met Jacqui, an Australian girl who seems to be great fun and is heading down the same way I am. So it look like I'll have someone to travel with until Phnom Penh.
