A crazy night with crazy Americans

Two nights ago, when I was out with Nana and Naja, I met a small group of Americans who seemed like a lot of fun. But they were leaving when we started talking and so we agreed to meet at the “Angkor What?” bar again last night. Fortunately it turned out they were not just fun but fucking hilarious!

It’s really too bad that I didn’t take any pictures. Anyhow: So I met them again in the Angkor What bar and was getting very good vibes from them. So we were talking about the usual (Travelling, countries of origin, my accent, sex) when they unfortunately said that they wanted to go to some other place since they wanted to dance. Since I was strictly speaking going out with Naja and Nana that night I could hardly abandon them. But since they had met two Danish guys and were talking Danish so quickly that I couldn’t follow what they were saying I really would have like to follow the Americans. Besides, some of them were quite cute and I figured my chances of getting laid were much better if I stuck to them then if I remained at the bar. All in all there was about 40 of them (they were all part of something called “Semester at Sea”, i.e. a swimming college). Fortunately the girls returned to the bar a bit later (the disco they had been at sucked) just when Nana and Naja were about to go to bed.

So we ordered some more drinks which led to a lot of more drinks and eventually went to the “Martini” nightclub, a place that is almost exclusively visited by Cambodians. That place was so weird! In the center there is a dance floor and in the back a DJ, just like you would expect from a nightclub. But around the dance floor are huge tables, like you would expect at a banquet and the waiters are all dressed up in uniforms like in a fine restaurant or hotel (the price of the beer, 2,5 USD per bottle of Angkor beer certainly suggested that you were in a very expensive hotel!). But now listen to this: Every 20 minutes or so they would take a break! At first I thought they might be closing or something. I mean, one second the music is pumping and everybody is dancing really hard and the next second the music stops and the lights go on. But then, after five minutes of comparative silence the music started again and everybody rushed back to the dance floor. I mean: What the fuck?

Anyhow: Two of the girls, Liza and Kelly from Texas, immediately took over the stage and almost the whole nightclub. They just jumped on the stage, started to dance really, really sexy and shortly a few minutes later they jumped on the loudspeakers and were dancing gogo-like in a way that would probably have made Christina Aguilera blush. The locals loved it – and so did I! The Cambodians were cheering them on and going ever more crazy as these two girls kept shaking their bodies on the stage and on the loudspeakers (quickly thereafter two fights broke out which the waiters dealt with very efficiently.) One of the things I really liked about the whole thing was that these two girls just radiated sexuality. They were hot! And the great thing about that is that they were hot even though they are not stunners. I think they are both good looking but definitely not in way that will ever put them on the front of Fashion magazine. You know, not fat, but you can definitely see that they have grown up in a country where fast food rules. And it didn’t matter at all. There were Asian girls there with far greater bodies, but these two were the hottest, sexiest and most sensual girls in the whole place. And they didn’t even wear makeup or particularly sexy clothes. They were just themselves and they rocked! The bottle of rum they bought might have helped, though.

When we left the place they found out that they didn’t have enough money to pay for the bill, so I helped them out. They then went back to their hotel to get some money and we met in another nightclub shortly thereafter (the bottle of rum was getting emptied very quickly). In front of the club I found something lying on the street, that in our stage of mind and in the bad light looked like a 100 USD bill! Unfortunately it was a bad fake, though so that we couldn’t use it. Damn. So instead we went to get some food into us. I don’t know what we did (I don’t remember having done anything stupid) but when I walked past the place today the waitress pointed and me and started to laugh hysterically. She then said something to her colleagues and the people working in the restaurant next door who also started to laugh before she looked at me again and said: “You. Last night. Very drunk.” Oh oh.

Having gotten some food into us (I seem to remember French fries and Spring rolls) we decided to return to Martini only to find that the place closed at 2 am (o.k. granted, it was Tuesday night). Unfortunately they had to get up early and the fact that all the nightclubs were closing brought that fact back to their attention. So instead of partying on, we decided to kiss good-bye and went home to our respective hotels. What a great night!

Current comments:

Just so ya know (if you care in any way)... 'Semester at Sea' is a University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, US) program much like many 'learning abroad' programs offered at other Universities. If I am not mistaken, this program originated at, and is unique to, Pitt U. I am certain, however, that it's not a 'swimming college'... heh, heh.

Great site... keep it up. Biggest advice I could give you would be... pictures. Lots of them... they enhance your stories immensely...
