Margaret River: Wines and Kangaroos

Just arrived in Margaret River, a small town about 350 km south of Perth. There are basically two things happening here: harvesting wine and surfing. We already saw some surfers on the beach and tomorrow we'll go on a winery-tour. And: I saw my first Kangaroos!

Actually seeing Kangaroos is not that much of a good thing at all, 'cause unfortunately they are in the habit of jumping in front of your cars and getting themselves killed and you badly injured. And having seen how bloody big these animals are I certainly don't want one to crash through my windshield ! But they are beautiful! Seeing about 30 or 50 of them grazing on the slopes was just fantastic!

The landscape, down here in the southwest is quite nice, btw: beautiful, green, rolling hills with big trees and huge fields of wine. Quite nice, really. And it's quite warm, too: During the day the temperature was in the high twenties, so no complains there, either.

The car is driving quite niceley, too - sometimes it seems to have a bit of a "hickup" when you drive 80 km/h and when you hit 100 km/h - but aside from that it's fine. Getting the tire fixed and buying a new spare wasn't much of a deal either. That and the wheelspanner set me back 81 AUD, which I don't think is that bad.

The hostel we are staying in tonight - the "Innetown Backpackers" (20 USD/bed in a dorm) - seems to be very nice and friendly. The kind of place you can easily stay a bit longer, with a nice common area, small rooms and relaxed staff. Well, let's just hope that there are no animals in the room :-).
