A major row over sleeping arrangements
Why is it that you always loose out on arguments with girls, even if you are right? I mean, how do they manage to put you in the wrong even though it is quite clearly them who are wrong? Alright - this is what happened:
Having mastered the incredible boredom of the road, we arrived in Coral Bay around 16.00. The girls had said they'd like to camp to which I said that that was fine with me, I'd simply sleep in the car. When we arrived in Coral Bay however they weren't to sure about whether they really wanted to camp or not, so we went to the Backpakers there. It seemed really nice, but it was 25 AUD a night for a four-bed dorm and 20 AUD for a ten-bed dorm. I find that way to expensive for a small village (pop 125), beach and corals or not, and the girls felt even more strongly so then I did. So we decided to stay on the campground instead.
Logic! Logic, please!
And what happens? All of a sudden they complain about not having camping mattresses and are whining about getting cold in the night. I told them that they could have my camping mattress if they wanted since I have a bigger mattress for the car. Else, they would be welcome to share the car with me and besides there was a camping-shop where I was sure they could buy matresses if they wanted to. And what do they say? "Why don't you sleep in the tent and we sleep in the car?" Mind you, they have sleeping bags and I don't. So I said that no, I would not sleep in the tent since I didn't want to sleep in the tent and that that was that. Then they complained about getting cold from the ground without a mattress. Again I pointed out that there was a lovely store that was sure to help them with that problem. Needless to say that this didn't go down well and all of a sudden they agreed that it was only my fault if they had to freeze tonight and how could I be so selfish. To this I replied that it was hardly my fault if they hadn't thought about buying mattresses to which they said that they wouldn't have to freeze if they could sleep in the car to which I said that they were happy to share but that I didn't intend to freeze alone in the tent without a sleeping bag either. And so it went. Eventually they sulkingly went to the camping store and were seriously mad at me for the rest of the day and night and even today. Can someone please explain to me what they were thinking????
It was freeeeeezing cold
As a matter of fact I doubt that I would have survived if I had slept in that tent, with only a thin mattress below me and no sleeping bag but only two thin and way too short fleeze-blankets to cover me. I think I only slept two or three hours, the rest of the time I was too busy freezing. It was so cold! Eventually I went to my backpack and put almost everything I had in there on and I was still bloody cold. I don't know what would have happened if I had really given in to their girlish demands and slept outside. At least they had sleeping bags, a blanket and each other to keep themselves warm.
A beer with the nice girls
Before going to bed I went into the bar at the Backpackers where I knew Kelly and Ruth were staying. We had a pretty gfood night, mainly because three drunken and rather obnoxious Aussies tried to hit on them and a friend of theirs. But they were soooo drunk that it was more amusing then anything else. Besides, I discovered that Ruth has one of the sharpest (well, almost vile) tongues I have ever encountered. I sat in silence and awe while the Aussies bought round after round.
