A shattered windscreen and ripped-off in Broome

Arrived in Broome after almost eight hours of hard driving. Unfortunately though the windscreen got seriousy fucked on the way. Well, that's what happens if you pass one of those big road trains on a bad stretch of road.

The road in question was actually the Great Northern Highway, so one could expect it to be in decent condition. Unfortuantely though there were road works on part of the road and it was there that this road train passed us, leaving a big cloud of flying pebbles in its wake. And about seven or eight of those hit the windscreen so hard that they chipped dime-sized parts out of it. Damn. And a new windscreen costs around 300- 400 AUD. The problem is though that the windscreen-guys here simply don't have new windscreens for 20 year old cars. So I'll be off to the wreckers tomorrow trying to find a second hand one. If not, then I'll have to live with it until Darwin - another 2.000 km.

Kimberly Klub - a rip-off!

After the shit with the windscreen I was really looking forward to my hostel. I had heard some good things about the "Kimberley Klub" and thought this wouldbe a good place to spoil myself for a few days. After all, 25 AUD/night in a dorm is not exactly cheap. But unfortuantely it turned out to be even worse! For one thing, all the dorms share one roof, i.e. they don't have individual ceilings. So in fact you are not sharing a room with five or ten people but without 100. Secondly the baris really expensive: 4.80 AUD for a Carlton Cold? That's more then I've paid in some pubs and they don't even allow you to bring your own booze! The imho worst thing however is that they try to get you to hire all sorts of stuff. Imagine: You have to pay 2 AUD extra to get cutlery etc and another 2 AUD to get a blanket! And we are not talking about a deposit here, you actually have to hire that stuff - and that's after having paid 25 AUD for the bed. I mean, come on!
