"Better roads for Queensland"

The East Coast ...read the sign we passed between Cloncurry and Normanton. And boy, do I support this initiative! If they had installed a little donation-box under that sign I would have given money at one! 'Cause, believe me, the so called Matilda Highway is no highway at all. More »

My Cloncurry Days

Well, there are much worse places to get stuck for a few days than Cloncurry. Elliot, for example (uuuh - shiver). And while that is true, it was almost a bit funny how Louise and I kept reminiding each other of this fact. Typically this went a bit like this: More »

Stuck in Cloncurry

Cloncurry Well, it turned out that the garage wasn't able to patch the car together so that we could get at least to Townsville. Apparently the water-pump is about to fall apart (now, that explains that funny sound I've been hearing since Broome) and they recommended strongly against going any further. More »

Poor Car! A Breakdown in Cloncurry

Watch out for Kangaroos Yesterday was a pretty hard day for my poor car. First I did something really stupid and then something even more stupid happened. And so we are sitting in Cloncurry, just 120 km east of Mt. Isa, hoping for it to get fixed enough to get us to Townsville. More »

Last days in Darwin

It's time to leave Darwin - and I'm a bit sad about this. I hung out with a couple of really cool people here and generally had a good time. Besides I think that Darwin is actually a pretty nice place. More »

Weeds, crocs, bushfires and heaps of fun

Riding that Quad I just had the best week ever! Going to Mary River National Park to volunteer was definitely one of the best things I've done on this trip so far. We got to ride quad-bikes (that's something of a cross between a motorbike and a small tractor) all day, saw loads of beautiful scenery and wild animals and even got to start a bush fire! More »

Weeding rocks!

I'm back from the bush! And I had heaps of fun! I'll write a full accord of what happend and what it was like later, but for now the photos from the trip have to be enough. Click here to see all photos. More »

The rejuvenating effects of travelling - I got carded!

I really couldn't believe it! I went to a nightclub yesterday and was asked for my ID! That hasn't happend to me in - what? Eight years? I mean, people have told me that I look better, younger and leaner now than I do on the pics I have from home. But under 18? More »

Stay up to date! Never miss an entry!

I finally managed to get the email-notifications to work! That means: If you enter your email-address in the little box on the left of the homepage, you'll be notified every time I update my blog! Isn't that great?! Sorry. Please note: There is no "thanks for submitting your email-adress"- message. But if you press "Add!" I will get it. More »

The girls are gone :-(

Sunset on Mindil Beach, Darwin Rowan, Rossi and Joni left me! They went to Sydney last night. What a shame, what a shame! I had a really good time with the three of them - and that's not only because they are just gorgeous. Though admittedlyI got a lot of joy out of simply looking at them. More »

To weed or not to weed?

Ok, I managed to find out a bit more about the weeding that I could do for a week in Mary National Park. And fortunately it does not involve crawling through the rainforest with a nailclipper. More »

A trip to Litchfield Park and other plans

Litchfield Park - Florence Falls I had a really good day yesterday. We went to Litchfield Park, one of the smaller National Parks near Darwin. Smaller it might be, but I can't imagine the famous Kakadu National Park to be any better. Besides, Litchfield is free :-). More »

Really bad movies and a very good book

Since I came to OZ I saw two movies that I found very annoying. I've also read quite a lot of books and most of them were quite ok. But I guess that none will be as memorable as the one I'm reading at the moment. More »

Kununarra to Darwin in a day

Bushfire on the way to Darwin What a pleasant surprise! Joni, Rossi and Rowan decided to turn their backs on Kununarra and travel with me to Darwin instead. They couldn't find any fruitpicking-jobs because it had rained so much recently and the fields were all muddy. So they decided that if they'd have to do something like waitressing, then they could just as well do it in a nice place (like Sydney). More »

A night in the trailer. Or: The hostel that wasn't there

Boab Tree Austalia keeps surprising you, that much is certain. Take today: We drove to Fitzroy Crossing from Broome through more rain (How I hate those locals who keep telling us how great and exciting it is to have rain this time of the year since it hasn't rained this time of the year for more than 30 years) only to discover that the hostel in Fitzroy Crossing isn't there any more. 's all good...

Rowan Joni and Rossi Things are looking good: The sun has been shining for the last two days (finally), the Scottish girls from Tom Price are going to travel with me to Kununarra and I even have managed to sell a story to a German news-site! More »

Overcoming the language barrier

One of my non-german readers remarked last night that it'd be far more interesting to read this blog if the comments were in English. Good point. So please post in English if you can. If you can't I'll translate your comments as good as I can and put the translation under the original. Subtleties might get lost in translation. More »
