Last days in Darwin
It's time to leave Darwin - and I'm a bit sad about this. I hung out with a couple of really cool people here and generally had a good time. Besides I think that Darwin is actually a pretty nice place.
Beautiful beaches (even though you can't swim in them), a couple of nice pubs and decent clubs, just big enough to feel like a city while small enuoh to feel cozy. I can't understand why I met so many people on the westcoast who said they hated it.
A day in the parks
Yesterday I spent the day with three of my friends, Shelley, Lucy and Mari, exploring the "unknown parks of Darwin". It's quite funny: darwin has a number of parks within the city but noone ever goes there. So we did: Charles Darwin Park is nice for a picnic, the Holmes Jungle Reserve sadly inaccesible but Casuarina Beach turned out to be much nicer than the better known Mindil Beach. All in all, yesterday felt pretty much like a sunday at home: Picnic, coffee, a walk and lying in the beach (o.k., so there is no beach in Munich, but you catch my meaning). We were menat to meet later in the evening to have a final beer or two together, but somehow only Lucy showed up. That was a bit disappointing and frankly I don't undertstand what has happened to the girls. Hmpf.
Bye, bye Darwin
Today I'm gonna leave for Cairns (3.100 km). I reckon it will probably take me five days to get there. To my great surprise I found that it's much more difficult to find people to share the car in Darwin than anywhere else I had been. After three days of looking I found one English girl however whom I'll be leaving with in a bit. Unfortunately she doesn't have a drivers licence for manual cars though, so that I'll have to do all the driving. Well, at least I have someone to keep me awake and to share the costs with.
Oh, btw: The hostel I stayed in on my second stay in Darwin, was Chillis Backpackers. It's alright but just nothing special. And with them raising their prices to 25 AUD per night for dorm I think it's overpriced.
