A packed day in Yosemite

I had an absolutely amazing day in Yosemite today! I thought of how much we always managed to do each day while we were on the Stray-bus and so I tried to do it like that. I'll give you the details when I'm back in SF but here is the raw meat: In the morning I climbed my first proper mountain - the 220 meters high Manure Pile (now, is that a nice name or what?) with ropes and helmet and everything.

I never thought I could walk up mountains like a fly, but hey, I managed to do alright. Only slumbed into the rope once. And I suppose I'll suffer for it tomorrow - I'm already feeling my legs. Right after I came down from the mountain I jumped into the car and drove to Mariposa Grove where I saw some giant sequia trees. To be honest, I thought the looked pretty much like the treets I had seen in the Valley of the Giants - just red. Hmm - I'm afriad I'm starting to become a bit indifferent to the wonders I'm seeing. Then I drove to Glacier Point to see the sunset. Me and two other people had already been there last night to see the valley in moonlight, which was absolutely breathtaking. And it wasn't any worse in the fading daylight! Then I discovered that the dashboard-lights on my car don't work which sucks if you have to drive down a mountain in the dark. But what can you do? I drove with the cabinlight on. At the bottom of the valley I drove past a forest fire and got somne really cool pics of fireman in front of flames. Don't worry, it's all controlled burning, so it's all good.

Aaaah - my time on this terminal is up!

Silly Timo!!! I think your dashboard lights didn't work because you didn't TURN YOUR BLOODY HEADLIGHTS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most American cars have daytime running lights on all the time and then you have to actually turn the headlight switch on at night so that your tail lights and dashboard lights turn on too! You saw lights out in front of your car because of the daytime running lights!! Oh well...glad you had a fun time in Yosemite!

No, that was not it. But it might have been something pretty close to it. Apparently the car has some switch to dim the dashboard lights. And believe me I was looking for that switch really, really hard! Ah, well.
