I won an award!

This is soooo cool! I just found out that one of my photos (the one I included in this post) won a second price at the international photography awards (IPA) 2004! Unfortunately I did not win the 10.000 USD cash-price - actually I didn't win anything at all, except for the honour - but I'm absolutely thrilled nonetheless!

I mean, I've never won anything like this in any kind of competition! What really surprises me is that it was this sunset-photo from Myanmar that won and not the photo of the little girl. And the funny thing is that I took the winning photo pretty much as an afterthought. It was more one of those "Ah, why the heck not"-shots, than a photo that I thought would turn out as well as it did. And now some people in LA are gonna print it and but it into a book! That is so cool!

Congrats, my friend!
I'm sorry that I haven't communicated too much since you went on your trip - but I guess you've been so busy so you haven't even noticed, right?
Anyway, I've enjoyed reading your reports, and having travelled and written a weblog myself this summer (which, incidentally wasn't half as great as yours, but then again, we were only away for 6 weeks) I'm extremely impressed that you've managed to update so often with pictures and all. Great work, and great storys. Seems like your're having a great time!
Love Johanna

Congratulations!
your photo is excellent!

Thanks Johanna! And I did notice! But don't worry - I remember (dimly) what it's like to hold down a real-life job :-/.
