Roadblocks and Burning Tires on the Road to Panajachel

What is the world coming to if you canīt even trust ex-paramilitaries to be good to their word? I was supposed to be halfway to Panajachel by now, but the roads are blocked by loads of people who want money for things they did in some war 20 years ago (mainly slaughtering Mayans). And thatīs after they promised on thursday that they wouldnīt do anything like that for the next eight days. Dammit! Canīt you trust anyone anymore these days?

Of course that leaves me stranded in Antigua for now. And, whatīs worse, it leaves Kathy waiting at the dock in Panajachel. Fortunately we had already agreed on a meeting-schedule in case things go wrong (i.e. we try to meet every 30 minues for 5 minutes). But it still sucks. According to my travel agent the road blocks should be dissolved by the afternoon and they promised me that I could get on the 12.30 shuttle. But that means I wonīt be there before 15.00, which will leave me very little time to enjoy the lake. Besides, the last boat from Panajachel to the little village where the hotel is at leaves at 17.00. So I canīt afford much more delays.

As unfortuante as this is, I have to give credit to the girl in the travel agency. I told her that Iīm supposed to meet a friend there and she called all the Spanish Schools in San Pedro to find Kathy. So at least we were able to leave a message with her family. But unfortuantely she had already left. Damn.
